Retributive justice is an old concept which is an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. In the merchant of Venice, Shockley made a deal with Bassanio says that if he couldn't paid the money back he'll have to paid with his flesh.
In the Renaissance period, retributive justice is the concept that almost every people had. Although this concept sometimes may against the justice that we think today, it can please every people by helping them to revenge the person that they hate.
